International Symposium on Maritime Health
Goa,
India - September 23-26, 2009
Dear
Colleagues,
Namaste
and welcome to India. On behalf of the Maritime Health Association
- India and the Organizing Committee, it is with great pride
and honour that I invite you to participate in the 10th International
Symposium on Maritime Health to be held in Goa, India from 23rd
to 26th September 2009. The theme of the symposium is ‘Quality
Maritime Health & Seafarers Welfare - A Global Perspective’.
The
Maritime Industry has entered the new millennium and giant strides
have been taken in health, welfare, manning, training and education
and telecommunication. The last decade has seen the maritime
world attempting to consolidate these efforts on a global front.
The Symposium seeks to bring together experts and learners from
maritime and related fields and offers them a platform to share,
discuss, debate and problem solve on quality issues concerning
seafarers health, safety and welfare.
This
symposium welcomes all physicians, scientists, trainers, legislators
and stake holders of the International shipping industry involved
in maritime health, Seafarer’s welfare, safety and welfare
of seafarers worldwide. The theme of the symposium ‘Quality
Maritime Health & Seafarers Welfare - A Global Perspective’
addresses matters on Quality Shipping Worldwide, which is an
ILO Declaration (Maritime Labour Convention 2006).
It
is our endeavour that all participants will gain from the plenary,
group sessions, satellite workshops, poster presentations and
the questions that will be debated during the open house sessions.
The burning issues which affect shipping today like stress,
psychological and interpersonal problems causing loss of manpower,
talent and early burn outs will be debated on an international
platform. Medical issues on ship and on shore is sought to be
bridged through seafarer welfare services. This we need to cement
taking cue from the successful ICSW - IMHA seafarer’s
welfare initiatives in South Asia.
The
conference venue - GOA- is a drop of golden sun on the west
coast of India and is bestowed upon by innumerable gifts: picturesque
landscape, sun drenched beaches, historic monuments, pleasant
climate, culinary expertise and above all, hospitable people.
Welcome to a cocoon of luxury that promises to gift you the
finest working holiday.
And work it will be. The scientific programs will be organized
over three days and will encompass topics related to Maritime
Health and we invite speakers from among maritime health professionals,
government officials, administrators, ship owners and ship managers,
seafarers organizations, and all other stake holders of the
International Shipping Industry.
We look forward to hard work intermingled with entertaining
social events, business tie ups, professional advancement and
most of all, an enriching and satisfying symposium with academic
fulfillment and happy memories.
